History curriculum overview for Year 3

 

Focus of study - Early Civilization 

During this unit the children find out about the way of life of people living in ancient Egypt from archaeological discoveries. Children develop their understanding of characteristic features of a society; identify the different ways the past is represented; and use sources of information to make simple observations, inferences and deductions.

 

The children also learn the achievements of other early civilizations such as Ancient Sumer and The Indus Valley. 

 

Focus of study - British History

During this unit the children locate and find out about events in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron age in chronological order. They develop their ability to use written and pictorial sources, ask and answer questions, give reasons for actions and identify changes.
