History curriculum overview for Year 3/4
Focus of study - Early Civilization
During this unit the children find out about the way of life of people living in ancient Egypt from archaeological discoveries. Children develop their understanding of characteristic features of a society; identify the different ways the past is represented; and use sources of information to make simple observations, inferences and deductions.
Focus of study - British History
1) The children are introduced to the idea that people from other societies have been coming to settle in Britain for a long time. They consider the effects of the invasion and settlement of the Romans on Britain through historical enquiry using artefacts. In addition to this the children learn about the lives of different types of people living in these eras (Julius Caesar, Emperor Claudius and Boudicca) and learn how these people influenced this era.
2) During this unit the children locate and find out about events in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron age in chronological order. They develop their ability to use written and pictorial sources, ask and answer questions, give reasons for actions and identify changes.
Focus of study - Local History
Children investigate how Pelsall has changed over time and with particular focus on the mining industry.
