History curriculum overview for Year 5
Focus of study - British History
1) During this unit the children find out about when and where World War 2 took place with particular reference to the Home Front and the impact on children (including evacuation).
2) Children learn about why and how the Anglo-Saxons and Scots settled in Britain.
Focus of study - Non- European History
Children study the Mayan civilization which helps them make contrasts with British history. Areas that are investigated are things such as who are Maya people, their religion and Gods, and Mayan explorers.
